PRACTICE REQUIREMENTS

It is the parent’s responsibility to see that your child practices. There is a direct relationship between regular practice and student success. Parents should establish a regular practice time for your child that is free from distraction, and give positive reinforcement for your child’s practice. When possible, parents should help their child practice, especially at the beginning levels. If it is not possible to help directly, just being in the room while the child practices is supportive and encouraging.

  • First year students should practice no less than 30 minutes per day.
  • Second and third year students should practice no less than 45 minutes per day.
  • Students in their fourth year and above should practice no less than 60 minutes per day.

Practicing should occur at least six days per week. If this practice requirement is not followed, it is impossible to guarantee that the student will have a successful or positive learning experience.

Our online Practice Log is available for registered students/parents to record practice time, and for our Instructors to post music homework assignments via our website. Simply log into your music studio account using your user name and password via our website. Click on the Practice Log from the drop down People Menu and start recording your practice time.

PIANO AND METRONOME REQUIREMENT

All students should have daily access to an acoustic piano or 88-key weighted action keyboard with sustain pedal and appropriate seating. Also, each student is expected to have a working metronome and to use it as the teacher requests.
