MATH TUTORING PROGRAM
Cognizant of the bond between math and music, we have expanded our services to include quality math tutoring to students in grades K-12. We are committed to meeting the unique needs of our students. Our primary focus is to build a strong foundation of skills at the elementary level that will be used for later learning of more complex math skills. Our math tutoring is one-on-one and curriculum based on what your child is currently learning in school. We also address other critical skills such as study habits, organization, problem solving, time management, homework completion, and test and exam prep. Regular weekly math sessions are offered year-round to facilitate consistency, organizational skills, communication skills, and overall progress.
Our math tutor is Mrs. Dorothy Critchlow. She has several years of experience tutoring students in math at all grade levels, K-12. She is multi-talented and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics from Hampton University and an Associate of Arts degree in Music from Prince George’s Community College. She keeps her math skills current with continuing education college courses. She is well equipped to explain the math concepts while meeting the demands of the Common Core State Standards. Mrs. Critchlow makes learning math fun and enjoyable and is currently writing a book on integrating math and music.
Regular Weekly Sessions
Math tutoring sessions are conducted on a regular weekly basis for consistency and progress. Your time slot will be the same each week unless you request a change in your established schedule. Also, weekly sessions allow the tutor to identify weaknesses and provide assistance in those areas.
Math tutoring sessions are a minimum of one hour weekly. The sessions are one-on-one. In order to take advantage of the maximum benefits of tutoring, students should come prepared each week with the necessary materials such as a laptop/iPad, textbooks, pencils, paper, highlighters, calculator, and a list of the skills in which they need assistance.
Missed Sessions & Late Arrival
The tutor is not responsible for missed sessions on behalf of the student. Unfortunately, missed sessions due to prior appointments, traffic, and other circumstances cannot be made up.
Regular Session Schedule Changes
A change in your regular weekly scheduled session’s day, time, or location must be provided in writing and will be accommodated based on the tutor’s availability.
In the event of severe weather closings, your session will be rescheduled.
We observe all Federal holidays. In the event your tutoring session falls on a Federal holiday, the canceled session will rescheduled.
If the tutor is absent, the session will be rescheduled or an experienced substitute tutor will be provided. Also, if the tutor is late, the time will be made up either at the current session or the next scheduled session.
Math tutoring is conducted at our studio located at 11603 Hickory Drive, Fort Washington, MD 20744. In-home tutoring is not available at this time. However, math tutoring is available at local libraries within a 15 mile radius upon request.
Monthly Payment Due Date & Invoices
Monthly tuition for math tutoring is due in advance (by the 1st day of each month) online via PayPal. After your first payment, invoices will be sent by electronic mail on a monthly basis. No cash and checks will be accepted. Fees are non-refundable.
There are no contracts. Bryant’s Music will provide math tutoring on a month-to-month basis as long as you feel that it meets your needs. Should you choose to discontinue, you may do so by giving a 30-day notification in writing.
All new students interested in math tutoring must schedule a free math consultation. The meeting usually lasts no longer than one hour and must be done in person with the parent/guardian and the student who will be tutored. The consultation is designed to inform parents and students of what to expect from tutoring, assess student abilities, and recommend a suitable tutoring plan. Students should bring the following to the consultation:
